There are other shotguns out there. There is "Rev-o-Noc" and "Chicago" made for Hibbard, Spencer & Bartlett Company of Chicago. Another is "Marswell" for the Marshall Wells Company of Duluth, Minnesota.

Re: Diamond Jubilee??
Houseman27;
If this is an OTASCO gun, then it was made in 1978 as the above post states. If this is a Powell, Wyoming Diamond Jubilee gun, then is was made in 1984.
But, the serial number you state indicate it is an OTASCO gun.

Re: NATIONAL FIRE ARMS CO. SHOTGUN ??
Bussman69; Yes, this would be a Marlin Model 16. At that time, Marlin made quality products, and they would have continued to do so for any of the private brand guns. Reputation was everything then. As far as quality goes, there may have been a lesser grade of wood used, as Marlin would have had to ...

Re: NATIONAL FIRE ARMS CO. SHOTGUN ??
Bussman69; The National Fire Arms Company guns were made by Marlin for the H & D Folsom Company of New York city. They in turn sold guns to other gun sellers around the country. H & D Folsom sold a number of name brand guns under different names to gun sellers. We really have no serial numbe...

Factory records show that serial number 97395 is a Model 1893. It was shipped in late 1893 in .32-40 caliber in a 26 inch octagon barrel.

That number is the actual serial number of that particular rifle. The "E" serial number prefix indicates that this particular rifle was produced in 1948.

Re: Marlin model 39
Mike;
The "HS"serial number prefix indicates your Marlin Model 39 was made sometime between 1932 and 1939. Within the range in the 3800, probably late 1932 or early 1933.

Re: Marlin 1893 maybe?
Eric; Unfortunately, the factory record for your rifle is blank. There are other Model 1893's in the area that were shipped in 1894. Now this is prior to smokeless powder came out in 1895, which would have included the .30-30 cartridge. The other guns in the area are either .32-40 or .38-55 caliber ...

Re: NO32 STANDARD 1875 help needed.
Godsey1; To start with, remove the grips from the gun. If the main spring is broken, it will show there. Otherwise, remove the small screw from the sideplate on the left side of the frame and then the circular sideplate. You may have to stick a small screwdriver up through the grip area to pop the s...

Re: Pawn shop find, What is it ???
BUSSMAN69; The factory installed recoil pads I have seen are a reddish/orangeish color. The Model 1898 was not roll stamped on the upper tang with the model number and neither was the Model 16. All models after that starting with the Model 17 were roll stamped on the upper tang with the model design...

Re: Pawn shop find, What is it ???
BUSSMAN69; Those patent dates relate to the Model 1898. You do not state what gauge it is, but assume that it is a 12 gauge gun. With those low serial numbers, it would appear that this is a Model 1898, and since you do not mention any checking on the stocks, it will be an "A" grade gun. M...

Re: Marlin 39A
Cha; marlinman is correct, this is alter Model 39-A. The white line spacer was added to the butt plate in 1951, but not the pistol grip cap. That was added to the grip cap in 1957. The only explanation for the "C" serial number and the white line spacers is that the butt stock has been rep...
