1953 39A would it have ballard rifling?
Didn't get a chance to look at the bore, lever was zip tied. Gun is 75-80% bluing is kind of brownish. Nothing wrong with it that a little gun oil wouldn't fix. Shop has it listed for $350

Been to this place many times with no luck finding a lever 22, now they have a couple for me to choose from.

1953 marlin 39A
197? marlin 39D
19?? marlin 57M 22 Mag levermatic

winchester 94/22 but for me it is way over priced.

Yes - the '53 would have the early style rifling. With the merger of Marlin & Rem, prices will certainly not be getting any lower in the near future so 350 does not seem excessive to me. It's a quality rifle made of very good steel & walnut.

Concerning the 3 you mention, it would be a tough call to try for just one... I'd go for the 57M, but that's just me. If you can only get one, pick that which most greatly appeals to you as you really can't go wrong with any of them. SW

I have a 1958 Model 39A, a 1966 Model 57M, and a 1970 Model 39 Century Ltd. and a 1976 Win. 9422; take it from me, chosing one of those above the others is darn neared impossible.
They are all great guns. You have a tough decision to make.

been looking for over a year for a pre-safety lever 22, be it marlin winchester or browning.

Last month i picked up a 1969 39A mountie in very good condition. $300

Now a place has three dang it three...thinking i will be getting the 1953 39A since i like the curved grip better than the straight grip the Mountie has. But the 57M in 22 mag is something i would like to get. Don't think anyone is making a lever 22 mag anymore now that 17 HMR is taking over. Like most overs wish i had more disposable income.

couldn't find any now i have too many to choose from....

Ah... Such is the dilemma of the gun nut. It could mean taking PBJ sammiches to work and more than a few 'cup-o'-soups for supper, but always for your collection buy the best you can afford. SW
