39A cycling issues
Greetings! I have a 39A made in '53. The bolt was missing firing pin and extractor and also had a broken ejector. As no used ones were available, so the firing pin and ejector had to be fitted. I still have a little bit to go on the firing pin, as it's still a little too long ... I think. I now have cycling issues - if the hammer is all the way down, the lever binds and will not retract the bolt; however, pull the hammer back to the safety notch, it will cycle. The next thing is that the lever does not retract the bolt far enough to load requiring it to be retracted the rest of the way with the thumb. It will extract and eject. Any ideas? Shortening the firing pin might help the binding caused by the hammer resting on it ...maybe, but I am stumped with the short bolt travel???

Sounds like multiple issues caused by either ill fitted parts, or worn out parts. Firing pins are readily available from Wisners Gun Parts, as are some other parts. They might have ejectors? Larry Osborn also has old Marlin screws and some parts, and is worth calling. 208-651-6300 in Idaho.
The bolt not moving far enough tells me the lever may be too worn, or the new/used bolt is too worn.

Thanks for the help. I'm up in Alaska now, but have a couple more 39s; one being a 39 made in the teens and the other an "A" Century Ltd., at my farm in OK ... might have to eyeball them and see what's happening when I get back. Certainly never had any of these issues before, but these always had all their parts.
