My dad has a Marlin 92 lever action with an octagon barrel.
Serial # is 416960.
Everything functions fine, missing the firing pin.
I'd also like to do a little work on the barrel, tube and receiver.
Only other markings are the patent years.
Trying to find this serial number for info on the gun itself, including caliber.
Any help is appreciated.

Well your image links don't work. But your serial number is too high to be in the factory records which stop around 355,600. But a guesstimate I think will put it around 1914 if I remember what's been figured out in the past about higher numbers? Can't add anything else until you get picture posting figured out.
As for caliber, they were either .22RF or .32 Long CF or RF. It should be easy to look at the bore and see if the hole is .22" or .32" to know which it is. If it's a .32 Long, then it came with two firing pins for either RF or CF, and you'll need the CF as the RF ammo is either very tough to find, or extremely expensive when found. Even CF .32 Long is a bit hard to find, and a bit spendy, but it can be made if you reload.
Firing pins for either are found at Wisner's Gun Parts.

Re: Model Marlin 92 identification
Those images worked, and the first image reveals the larger diameter mag tube which tells me yours is a .32 Long RF/CF. So buying the CF firing pin will help get you started towards shooting your Model '92 Marlin. The firing pin is a drop in once the side plate is removed and the breech block removed, so very easy to replace.
Hopefully your mag tube assembly is working properly and locks open when pulled forward, and feeds ammo properly when loaded. Those mag tubes can spell the difference between being a working gun, or a wall hanger on a '92 in .32 Long. If non functioning there are no repair parts to fix them.

Buckshot221;
Should mention that the caliber is .32 Colt, not .32 S&W. The .32 Colt was made in short, long and long rifle lengths in both rim and center fire cartridges.

Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

Again, thanks to all who have helped on this. Huge, huge help and much appreciated. I know the tube opened fine but I am not sure on how it will feed. We will find out though. I'm going to check on that firing pin from the company you mentioned and see where we go from there.

Re: Model Marlin 92 identification
There are two .32 Long or .32 Short cartridges; the Colt version, and the Ballard/Wesson version. Both are identical cases, but the Colt version usually is loaded with a little smaller diameter bullet than the earlier Ballard and Wesson .32 Long. As Regnier pointed out, none of the .32 S&W Long and Short cartridges will fit as they're all to large a diameter for the '92 Marlin.
