Marlin 39A Serial Number

Post by pkoveleski »

I recently inherited a Marlin 39A Model Number 2471. Can someone tell me when it was made?

Thanks,

Paul K.

Is there no prefix letter to this number?
Does this 39A have a color cased receiver?

It is not a Model 39A. It is a Model 39 made from 1922-38, case color receiver, 24” octagon barrel, first variation. If you read the gun the information is right there on it upper tang behind hammer “Model 39”. DO NOT shoot high velocity rounds in it.

It may well be a 39A and a first year version. The first year in 1939 had no prefix letter. That didn't start until 1940. Need more information on top tang and barrel markings to be sure. If it is indeed a 1st year 1939 Model 39A it's just fine to shoot any hi speed .22 ammo.

Thanks marlinman93!

The barrel marking is clearly a Model 39A and there are no markings on the tang.
I understand that this model was mass produced but would you have any idea how many were made in 1939?

Thanks again,

Sorry I don't have any idea of production numbers for the early 39A's.
I once owned a mint condition 1st year 39A complete with hang tag, and Montgomery Wards contract for it's original purchase in The Dalles, Oregon. It was a local gun it's entire life, but my friend Dan Brophy (Marlin historian Bill Brophy's nephew) talked me out of it finally. One of those gun sales you regret ever since.
