Timing a Marlin 1889 ?

Post by 88man »

Hey Everyone. I'm having a problem with my Marlin 1889 in 44-40. The shell comes half was out of the mag tube and then jams pretty tight. I've had it apart quite a few times and can't see anything that would be causing this ?
Ive been told it needs to be timed but no idea what that means or how to do it ?
Can anyone explain this please ?
Thanks !

88Man;

Have you checked the magazine tube spring? Sounds like the spring is not strong enough to push the cartridge out onto the carrier before the lever starts to engage the lifter and then the lifter cannot raise up with the new cartridge and hence the jam because the cartridge is not fully onto the carrier.
One place to start......
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

The growing federal deficit = generational slavery to the national debt.

If the world was perfect.......it wouldn't be.
