Marlin 336RC 30-30 Winchester

I have a Marlin lever action rifle that is marked on the 20” barrel 336RC, s/n AB9165 which is not unusual. What is unusual is that it has a straight grip stock, a brass saddle ring, a straight round finger lever, and no front sight hood. There are no scratches or other marks in the grooves for the sight hood to indicate the hood has been removed. Never seen an RC like this. Any ideas.
