Hi,
I inherited a Marlin pump action shot gun and the serial number on the receiver is 34657 and the number on the barrel is 36239F. The inscription on the barrel reads "PAT'D NOV 6 1894, MAY 12, 1896 and JUNE 2, 1896". Any information would be much appreciated, thank you!

Davem9;
Your Marlin Model 1898 was shipped from the factory in New Haven, Ct. in April of 1902. It is a standard "A" Grade gun and was shipped with a 30 inch barrel with the serial number you stated. According to factory catalogs of the time, the standard 30 inch barrel was made with a full choke, which is what the "F" in the barrel serial number stands for. The patent dates listed are the standard patent dates for the Model 1898 shotgun.

Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!
