My uncle has a Model 39A in nice condition. I am trying to determine the correct version and date of mfg.
Serial #L9523 . I have not seen notation regarding the L prefix but it has the ramp front sight.

Re: 39A
Redanhauser;
The "L" prefix indicates 1954. In 1954, Marlin added the Micro-Groove rifling to the 39 Model line of guns. Not all of the guns made that year got the Micro-Groove rifling and some left-over Ballard rifled barrels were used in some of the 39-A's. It appears of the 39-A made that year, only 271 had the Ballard rifling while 3,814 had the new, patented Micro-Groove rifling.

Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!
