OkieT;

First off, Thank You, Brian for posting the pictures.
This is definitely a rebated Model 1881, and it is quite original with correct sights. An interesting note is that the earlier rebated Model 1881's were mostly .45 Government caliber while the later, rebated guns were .40-60 Marlin caliber.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

The growing federal deficit = generational slavery to the national debt.

If the world was perfect.......it wouldn't be.

I appreciate everyone sharing their knowledge. This is far more than I received from Marlin.

This is an awesome post with a lot of information. I recently inherited an 1881 .40-60 that condition wise is similar to the photos in this thread. It is in the 4XXX serial number range. I am trying to confirm the value of it. My Dad had it insured for $1800 but this amount was over 20 years ago. I plan to insure this one also. I just want to see if $1800 is a good value today if it increased.

If you would like to share photos it would be easier to evaluate your rifle. If you are having problems up loading the photos you can e mail to me and I can upload for you.
