Marlin did not make M1 carbine receivers - just parts like barrels, handguards and certain internal parts. I'm not sure if receiver makers like National Postal Meter made their own barrels or not, but Marlin barrels are often seen on NPM receivers.

The name by the rear sight is the actual manufacturer of the receiver - the barrel maker will be by the front sight as you have seen.

Marlin made around 314,000 M1 carbine barrels from April 1943 to April of 1944. "Most of Marlin's production went into the spare parts system of the Ordnance Dept.".
