Marlin barrel roll stamp
Recently purchased a Marlin factory barrel roll stamp. It is like new. The problem is I can't find if they made the rifle. The stamp has all the normal name and address but the model is 1895 75th anniversary "Buffalo Bill Cody Stampede" caliber was .45-70. From what I read in "The Book" roll stamps are so expensive to make they didn't replace them when the company was sold and the a name was added until they were worn out. Any body have one of these rifles or does anybody know why they didn't make it. Thanks
Questions and answers only lead to more questions, my head hurts!
Re: Marlin barrel roll stamp
I wish this had some discussion. I’d like to learn more about where you get one, how, or who might have roll-stamps. I understand Turnbull has them for Marlin and they are expensive to add to a barrel.
I understand etching, engraving or actual roll-stamp are the options for a new barrel but have not found where to read or see how any of it is done or which is preferred. I’d expect ‘roll-stamp’ comes closest to the authentic appearance.
I’m replacing a barrel that reads
First line:
Marlin Firearms Co. New Haven U.S.A.
Second line:
Patented Oct 11, 1897 April 2, 1889 August 1,1893
Left and right side has a little interesting design pattern.
