This one is an easy one....1971. From 1969 to 1972, the first two digits of the serial number was the year of manufacture. Dealers complained that Marlin was "dating" the inventory, so the system was changed in 1973. The first two digits of the serial number are now subtracted from 100 to attain the year of manufacture. (i.e. 100 - 27 = 73 or 1973)
