Marble sights

Post by Mike Faires »

Does anyone know when Marbles started producing the Model 95L sight, I have a Marlin Model 97 (manufactured 1905) with a Marbles Sheard front sight and a Marbles Tang. The barrel dovetail is plugged and I would like to install an appropriatte Marbles sight in that position. The model 95L appeals to me in that it folds down when using the tang sight. Not to mention I have one in hand. However I want to keep the gun in period. Thanks for any help.

According to Old Gun Sights A Collectors Guide, Optional sights for the 1897 or 97 between 1897-1923 were the same as the 1893 and under 1893 only listing for Marbles is a Marble-Sheard Gold Bead front sight and a Marbles Flexible Rear (tang) sight

Mike,
Not sure if the model 95 was around in 1905, but it was listed in 1930's Marlin parts catalogs as an available sight for Marlin rifles. I sure wouldn't worry about whether it was an option at that time if you want to add it to your 1897. Marbles sights were a often found option on many old Marlins.
Marlin lever actions 1870's-WWI, Ballards, and single shot rifles!
