17vs trouble extracting?

Post by marlin410 »

finally got a 17 and shot it today, a second hand 17vs. I had more failures than success with extraction.
Any advice?

I did still manage to cleanly take 4 crows!!!!

I'm new to this... what does "extraction" refer to?
If it has to do with the shell casing not ejecting, I think I am having the same problem with my little Marlin 15Y single shot bolt action rifle.
I need to know how to fix it or where to get the part to make it work so I can give it to my son.
Do you know of a web site that shows diagrams of parts for comparison purposes?
It seems easy enough to take apart, I am just not sure what part I need.

The rifle I was referring to was a second hand piece and I believe it had been dry fired a bit too much.
This creates a burr on the edge of the chamber that prevents positive extraction of a fired case from the chamber.
this is not exactly the same as an ejection problem where a case might get removed from the chamber but fails to get tossed clear of the receiver.
my problem seems to be fixed now good luck with yours.
