Proper storage for collectible

Post by jackman »

I have recently acquired a '50 336A in "mint" condition. Can anyone offer some general tips on storage of this fine old specimen? I think I know how to protect the "innards', but what about the blued exterior surfaces. Is there a way to slow down the transition to plumb? Thanks.

If you store it in a safe, some dessicant will help. Otherwise, wiping it down with a lightly oiled cloth a couple times a year should be sufficient. SW

I found that coating the entire exterior with a very light coat of Johnson's Paste wax keeps many problems away. Lately I have started using the gun socks as well. (Mainly to avoid unwanted scrapes when moving them to get to another).

Keep it in a safe that is inside the house, in a controlled environment, and they should be fine. Mine have been in this condition for 20+ years, and I see no change in any of them.
Like Steve said, I wipe them down a few times a year, and do nothing else, but enjoy them.
