Inherited three Marlin Rifles

Post by Saltz1979 »

This is my first post. I inherited three Marlin rifles. 1881 .40-60 serial no. 44XX, 1888 .44-40 serial no. 251XX, and a 1893 Carbine .25-36 serial no. 3847XX. I don’t know a whole lot about antique firearms as to their value. My Dad had them insured. I would like to also insure them but don’t want to over or under value them. The ‘81 seems to have to me a good amount of bluing, the ‘88 a fair amount, and the ‘93 hardly any at all. All the stocks look good with some dings and don’t appear to have been refinished but I am far from an expert. Thanks in advance for all your help.

This is always very tough to estimate since doing so without pictures is nearly impossible to get even close. The average range of values for these three similar rifles can vary greatly based on condition of metal, wood, and what features they have. Wish I could help more, but without great pictures I could be off by thousands.

I have posted the photos above for Saltz1979. I have already given him my appraisal, both for retail and insurance purposes. I am sure he will welcome other opinions.
