Marlin 92 Long Rifle
Was given a Marlin 92 by a relative and am trying to determine date of production. It's a 92 L/R .22 Serial # A5259. I recently had a local gunsmith clean it up and he fired it with no issues...Have no clue as to it's worth....

The "A" prefix to the serial number indicates that your Marlin Model '92 was assembled in 1916.

Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

Thanks, for the info on serial number. Can I assume the 5259 is it's production sequence?

Yes, and that would be in and among all models produced that year.

Sorry, one more question. I'm not that familiar with ammo. What would be the best .22 ammo for this rifle, and is it readily available?

Your Marlin Model '92 is a black powder gun, so you can shoot it, just be sure to use standard velocity or target ammunition in it. Modern high speed ammunition can crack the breech bolt.
