1893 Marlin 32-40 with 32" Barrel

Post by Ken114 »

Picked up a Marlin 1893 with a 32" barrel in 32-40. Round barrel, button mag. This is the first 32" barrel I have come across. All I have is my personal observations, so trying to get a idea of the rarity. TIA

When I was collecting pre WWI era Marlin lever actions my favorites were any model with extra length barrels. In the 1893's I found quite a few with 28" barrels, but 30" or 32" are extremely rare. In the smaller 1894 model I saw quite a few with 28" barrels, but never anything any longer.
From what I saw the 32" barrels were likely more rare than engraved guns! But unfortunately that's because almost nobody wanted them when new, and even now they're not getting big premiums for such a rare variation. I think most people find them strange looking, while I think they're beautiful!
Marlin lever actions 1870's-WWI, Ballards, and single shot rifles!
