Marlin Model 80 DL

I picked up a Marlin marked 80 DL at a gun show and the research I've done says that all 80 DL's had peep sights. My receiver is not drilled and tapped for a peep sight. The barrel is not marked Micro-Grove so that tells me it's a pre 1954 manufacture. So I'm asking was there another model that used the same receiver that did not have a peep sight? I also know that the stock is wrong because the inside area was carved out with a Dremel tool. I have ordered a replacement stock, front sight and the barrel pin so I can remove and refinish the barrel. Would really like to know about the receiver.
