1936 question
Does anyone know how many model 1936's were manufactured? Especially in 2nd variant B serial numbers when they changed to coil spring and unfluted stock. My understanding is that they stopped production mid to late summer due to WW2 and restarted wit C after the war. It would seem logical to assume there were fewer of this serial number than others.
Re: 1936 question
Quackahoic,
Based upon serial numbers I've seen, I would venture around 10,000
maybe someone else can tighten that up.
lowest i have recorded is B295 highest B9968

Re: 1936 question
I have a model 1936 marlin in 32 winchester special with a very low serial number of 43.There is no prefix ahead of the number just a 43.The gun is in very good condition. Was wondering if that number is possibly that low and is correct. It was wifes grandfathers rifle and was given to me several years ago.
Re: 1936 question
I would venture to say yes....i have seen serial number 77
would you be able to send a photo to hackensackdc@hotmail.com
I could look it over for you.

Re: 1936 question
A low number like yours would indicate first year production.JOHNROJO101 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 01, 2020 10:57 pm I have a model 1936 Serial Number: 584 I still don't know when it was manufactured. Can anyone give me a clue as to how to find out the date??

I have a Model 1936 SN of 3231 30.30 in Very Good to Excellent condition. Parts are hard to find as I like to have a backup of replacement parts. Where are these available and what other models are interchangeable with the M1936?

Re: 1936 question
A great number of '93 Marlin or 336 Marlin parts interchange with the Model 1936.

Re: 1936 question
I recently inherited a Model 1936 with serial number B2425. It appears to be in outstanding condition, but I have no idea what it's value might be. I tried to post a few high quality photos, but was unable to do that. Despite the lack of photos, can anyone tell me a range of values for this firearm? I'm just looking for a ballpark figure.
Re: 1936 question
I would venture 300-3500+ condition dependent (10%-100%).
Being in that last 5% in condition seems to be able to get over the $3000 mark and that being at the peak of collecting.
one easy way is to go to gunbroker or guns america or other sites and look at comparables.
If you looking for what the max value is....here is some past sales prices...
Lot 227 - a 1936 20" carbine sold with premium at Amoskeag auction in 2017 for $3,240
Vintage Firearms sold a 1936 24" Rifle on Guns america for $3,850
Collectors Firearms listed a carbine at $4500.00 and shows it as previously sold.
(So we don't know if it sold for this or less.)
Monty Whitley had a very nice model for around $3650 If i recall correctly. It is no longer listed on the website.
(he still has a lesser quality one for 1695 for sale)
I recall another selling thru Rock Island a couple of years ago....or one of the large auction houses for around $4750ish....(blew my mind)
but these were of all excellent top of line condition and apparently someone wanted them....
To find one sell for over $1600 in my opinion takes some considerable condition...85%+ or so....the last percentage points and the right atmosphere make all the difference....
If you were to look at the blue book you would be very disappointed....i would buy them all day for what they are generally listed for in there....but it has been a couple of years since i've cracked that book...
hope this helps..
