The Marlin 42, exposed hammer, pump action shotgun was manufactured from 1922 to 1933. Your low serial number would tend to indicate that it was made in the first year of production.

thanks!! I appreciate the info.my father acquired this when he was about 11[1933] nib from a gentleman on his paper route...paid for and delivered the Owatonna Peoples Press for a year....between my dad and I [for@30 years] it's had many thousands of rounds shot thru...never a miss fire or jam, Wade
