I have an old pistol. Here’s some information.
It is a Forearm Hopkins&Allen Arms Model 1801, Serial # D2780, 6” barrel, cylinder holds 5 bullets.
I’m not sure what caliber the gun is. I’m not sure how to calculate that.
Here’s what I know:
Hopkins & Allen Arms Company was an American firearms manufacturing company based in Norwich, Connecticut, that was founded in 1868 by Charles W. Allen, Charles A. Converse, Horace Briggs, Samuel S. Hopkins and Charles W. Hopkins. In 1902, the company acquired Forehand Arms Company, for whom it had been making revolvers under contract. The Hopkins brothers ran the day-to-day operations of the company until it went bankrupt in 1916 and was subsequently bought by Marlin-Rockwell in 1917. In September 2020, Sturm, Ruger & Co. bought Marlin-Rockwell.
Conclusion: Since this is a ‘Forehand’ gun, I have concluded that it was manufactured sometime between 1902 to 1916, and is 105-119 years old.

Sturm Ruger did end up buying Marlin. But Marlin-Rockwell hasn't existed since just after WWI, so they did not buy "Marlin-Rockwell".
Marlin lever actions 1870's-WWI, Ballards, and single shot rifles!

Jedomen;
So far, the only thing I have found is that Hopkins & Allen stopped using the Forearm name in 1909. One other thing, since this is 5 shot revolver, it is .38 caliber.
Okay, just did a quick GOOGLE search for this and found that the caliber of a 5 shot gun is .38 S&W. This gun was manufactured between 1901 and 1909. Some say that the 1801 is really 1901 for the year that manufacture started.
Everything mentioned said not to shoot smokeless powder in this revolver.

Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!
