Ranger Over and Under 12ga Model 103-1

What year was this manufactured in?
What chokes are the barrels with a "☆" stamped on the bottom barrel?
Any info would be appreciated.

The Marlin Model 90, sold to Sears, Roebuck and Company were marked Ranger with a specific designation for each of the different gauges.
The first Ranger's came out in 1936, and after WW II, (1945) the name was changed to J.C. Higgins. With the serial number you have, it most certainly will be an early gun either 1936 or 1937.
The gun came in two different barrel lengths, the 26 inch barrels were bored Modified on top and Improved Cylinder and the 30 inch barrels were bored Full on top and Modified.

Thank you for the reply and information. I appreciate it. The barrels are 30" thus full/mod on the bores. Have you come across SN list for manufacturing years 1936 - 1937?

It is my understanding that MODEL 90 serial number records have been lost.

I had a Ranger 103-1 with first generation forearm iron that did not extend to the top edge of the side of the frame (about a inch of forearm wood actually touched the frame). It did not have the stamped, matted rib on the top barrel, and the top lever was attached to the frame with a visible flat head screw.

Some early guns had a flying duck scene stamped on the side of the frame.

Thank you for the feed back. Good to know about the serial number list. I have provided photos for reference on the forearm. Top lever has a sloted flat head screw.
