Marlin 90 12 Gauge

Post by GlassKnees »

I have a Marlin 90 12 gauge O/U that I inherited from my father. I believe that it was made prior to 1949, though I have no documentation. The serial number is H783. There is some engraving, which I suspect was done at the factory as another person posted a comment that his shotgun has duck engraving which mine also has.

I would like to sell it, but don't know what it is worth. Here are some pictures:

There are some minor scratches in the wood, otherwise it seems to be in pretty good shape for its age. Can anyone suggest a reasonable asking price?

Really nice Model 90. H serial number does indicate it was made in 1949.

The gun has custom engraving that is unlike any I've seen, and I am guessing it is aftermarket engraving. Some engravers would but their initials somewhere in the engraved pattern. Marlin did provide some special "presentation" Model 90's. It is doubtful if any records remain, but you might contact Marlin Firearms to see if they have information about yours.

I really have no idea how much your custom engraved gun might be worth. A standard 12 ga. Model 90 in good condition might sell for $300-$400. However there is one with 30” barrels for sale on Gunbroker with a current bid of $476.

GlassKnees,

Sorry, but I made a mistake on the year made. H-serial number indicates it was made in 1951 (obviously a senior moment!)

I also noticed that it has a "lever-release" type of forearm that was introduced in 1951. Model 90's made prior to 1951 had a forearm that was held on the barrels with a spring clip.
