Barrel for an 1897 (can I use a new one on an old gun?)
I have my father's 1897 but when he was a kid he ringed the barrel then cut it off behind the ring, which left the barrel 12" long! I have all the wood and parts but I need a barrel for the gun, preferable a good one. I have seen a place that offers barrels for the new 1897s but I don't know if they can be used on an old gun. Can anyone tell me if this is possible? I know that this would not make the gun a great collector but I am more interested in making this gun shoot again. Thanks for the help.

I don't know if the barrel in mention will work, but generally the later round barrels from 39a's will fit, and work fine. I recently found a model 97 with a 1950's 39a barrel on it, and it was working fine. I pulled the barrel and installed an original spare I had here to restore it to original.
