What is it

I have a 22 Ballard , Marlin Pat. date 1875 Ballard Pat. date 1861 pistol grip stock,old round scope brass painted black,peep sight on the stock and the barrel is round 26 and 5/8 long and almost 7/8 dia. at end of barrel. What is it?

If your Ballard is an original .22 caliber model, then it can only be either a Number 3 Gallery rifle, Number 3 P.G. (Pistol Grip) or a Number 3F Fine Gallery rifle.
The 3F Fine Gallery rifle will have a schuetzen style butt plate and pistol grip stock. The most common .22 Ballard is the Number 3 Gallery rifle and usually will have a straight grip stock.
Many centerfire Ballard rifles were converted by gunsmiths to .22 caliber rifles over the years, so there is a possibility that you could have a conversion as well. Would need to see pictures of your Ballard to determine that.
