Marlin 1897 Cowboy ?'s

Post by hunter718 »

Fellows I am new to the Marlin site and Marlins in general. I'm 63 soon and don't know what took me so long to "catch on" to the marlin cowboys. A buddy got me interested in the cowboy silohuette games and left me shoot his 357 24" cowboy about 4 weeks ago. Now I have a 94-357 24"Cowboy, a Texan 20" Oct. barrel, and a 336 30-30 24" Cowboy on the way to my FFL along with 2 39A's and a 57M I bought a couple of weeks ago. Some sort of "Marlin Fever" got me. I am interested in getting a 1897 Cowboy but have not been able to find one for sale. I put an ad in the WTB forumn here today. I have seen in old ads on GB that these were advertised with both 24" and 26" barrels. Does anyone know how many of each were made in the 2 barrel lengths?? Are there different designations for each? Thanks in advance for your replys. hunter718

Hunter718;

I just looked at the 2000 & 2001 Marlin catalogs, and the 1897 Cowboy was only offered with the 24 inch octagon barrel. In 2002, Marlin created the 1897T with a 20 inch octagon barrel. Looks like a 1897 Cowboy with a shorter barrel. Apparently, the 1897T did not sell well as it was not listed in the 2005 catalog.
Good luck and have fun collecting......
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!

Hello,I just bought a Marlin 1897 Cowboy.22 off of GunBroker.com for $849.It was made in 1997? It only came in 24" octagon barrel.There was also a more fancier one made with engraving on it.There was no 26" barrels made for the 1997 year.I have not shot mine yet but I will soon.I do love the octagon barrel on it.-Tim
