Post by eccollie »

Would like info on following lever action, octagon barrel. The only markings are: Marlin Fire-Arms Co, New Haven CT USA
Patented October 11 1887 on barrel. 44W behind rear sight. 22528
behind fore stock on bottom. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Michael

Is it side eject or top eject? The caliber is 44-40, a top eject would be an 1888, side eject would be an 1889...............Buck 8) :wink:
If Marlin made SA revolvers, I'd be shooting those, too!!!

Michael;

By serial number, you have a Marlin Model 1888 that was shipped from the factory in New Haven, Ct. in early 1889.
There were 1,727 of the Model 1888's listed in the records in .44-40 caliber, 4,312 with a 24 inch barrel, most of which were octagon in shape. A total of 4,814 Model 1888's are listed in the old factory records.
I hope this helps.
