Marlin model 1895 38-56 lever action

I have a Marlin Model 1895 38-56...26" octagon shaped barrel. It's serial number starts with 173XXXXXXX Any guess on year of make or value?

1898. Value depends on originality & condition. The more closer the gun
is to when it left the factory helps the value. There is a saying among
collectors & that is "Condition is everything". Any alterations adversely
affect the value. The old 1895's models command a premium over the
other models because there is only 5000 listed in the records & because
collectors desire these guns. If you could post a pic on this website I could
help you determine a ballpark figure on the value. It is very hard to give a
value without seeing the gun. Thank you & I hope this helps.

from 1895 to serial #350xxx about 1906.

I have serial number 2433** & I think that is 1902 from what I have been told. Great that means I have an excellent start on my Marlin collection. Now all I need to do is decide what's next.

I was wrong , My serial number starts with 170xxxxxx. I will have pictures soon.

That serial number is to long to be an old gun or did you just guess at it?
