Marlin model 1895 38-56 lever action
I have a Marlin Model 1895 38-56...26" octagon shaped barrel. It's serial number starts with 173XXXXXXX Any guess on year of make or value?
1898. Value depends on originality & condition. The more closer the gun
is to when it left the factory helps the value. There is a saying among
collectors & that is "Condition is everything". Any alterations adversely
affect the value. The old 1895's models command a premium over the
other models because there is only 5000 listed in the records & because
collectors desire these guns. If you could post a pic on this website I could
help you determine a ballpark figure on the value. It is very hard to give a
value without seeing the gun. Thank you & I hope this helps.

I have serial number 2433** & I think that is 1902 from what I have been told. Great that means I have an excellent start on my Marlin collection. Now all I need to do is decide what's next.
Thanks for the information!

Serial Number to long
That serial number is to long to be an old gun or did you just guess at it?
Go to http://armscollectors.com/sn/marlinlookup.php and look at up.
