1889 marlin feeding problem

Post by mylestone »

Howdy. When cycling my 1889 in 32-20, ser no. 32xxx, the round is not being properly positioned properly on the carrier causing the round to contact the side of the breech. I can make it work from time to time by holding the rifle perfectly upright or by wiggling the rifle so the round aligns with the chamber. Also, after the cartridge ejects from the mag tube to the carrier, the cartrigde is quite free to slop around when the rifle is wiggled from side to side. Is this normal? Shouldn't the carrier hold the cartridge somewhat securely, or at least in alignment with the chamber? By the way, this happens using handloads or factory loads. I'm wondering if in the past 115 years maybe someone changed out the original 32-20 carrier with a 38-40 carrier. What do y'all think about it? Thanks in advance for your help.

Pick up a replacement and see if it corrects it. Does not sound right. Try here for a replacement http://www.wisnersinc.com/
