garage sale treasure??

i need help identifying my treasure and the value. It is a lever action, it has a round and octagon barrel, marked oct 11 1887. april 2 1889., marlin safety on top of receiver, caliber 44w.?. i believe it has a 5 digit serial# can't make out all numbers.

Dang! Nice one! Sounds like an 1889, and there were only 508 made in half oct barrel!

The value is going to be tricky, though. While this is rare, condition is the main thing that affects value. So if some well-meaning soul had sanded the stock or cold blued the barrel, for example, that would diminish the value by hundreds of dollars.

In this category, ANY alterations translate into a lesser value, and quite often by a three figure sum.

If you wouldn't mind posting pics, someone could give you an estimation that would be a lot more helpful that the blind guess that I am only able to provide. - And won't as you deserve a decent answer. SW
