Hello, everybody new to the forum.
I have recently bought a marlin for CAS. I can't seem to find much information on the internet for it.
It says patented oct 11 1887 april 7 1889 on the octogon barrel which makes it a 1889 I think.
The odd thing is the barrel length of 18", don't know if any were made in this length or if it was cut. If it was cut down it was a good job, the dovetails for the sight and the end of the magazine look perfect.
By the way the magazine looks like about 3/4 length.
The serial # is 876XX. Does anybody know how to check the factory record to see if it lists how this rifle came from the factory.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You came to the right place. Post the entire s/n and Regnier can look it up in the original factory records.

Re: marlin 1889
Marlincas;
Sorry to inform you, but somewhere along the history of your Model 1889 rifle, someone lopped 8 inches off of the barrel. It was shipped with a somewhat unusual 26 inch barrel in mid-1893. The factory records show that there are 3,729 Model 1889's listed with the 26 inch barrel out of about 55,000 Model 1889's produced.
I hope this helps.

Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!
