Marlin carrier trouble, any ideas?

Post by Ultona »

Hello all, I am having some trouble with my original Marlin 1894 Carbine. When I lever the gun, the carrier comes up with the shell on it, but not quite enough, therefore the shells hit the bottom rim of the chamber as they are going in to it and this causes a hang up or sometimes a jam. I was thinking it could be the rocker in the carrier causing this, as the lever isn't worn, and with another lever installed it still exhibited this problem. Any ideas?

I figured it out! The carrier was comming up far enough, but then fell back down about a 1/4" when you started to shut the action because the magazine follower was not touching the front of the carrier, which actually helps it stay up when feeding that last round into the chamber. That is why my jam was always on the last round going in. I replaced the mag tube spring and modified the follower to protrude just a hair more through the frame and it works now, no more troubles. Just wanted to let everyone know.
