When they first tried a .44 Mag gun, they used the 336 action. Didn't work out well, so they brought it out in the 1894. .357 is too small for that action, you'd end up with more problems than a little.
The Winchester '94 is another example of trying to retrofit to a smaller cartridge, the .44's and .45's function fairly well. The .357/.38's are a big problem...........Buck
