Saddle gun

Post by Raineystudios »

I inherited a Marlin 30-30 from my father in the 80s, the same rifle his Uncle passed to him. It was a saddle gun and i still have the scabbard but the rifle was stolen some time back. Id like to find a silmilar one but have been unable to find the same style. It had a very pronounced forestock that bulged down in front of the receiver. Can anyone help identify this exact model? I’ve looked for years through pictures but haven’t been able to find this rifle and I’d really like to replace it.

Raineystudios;

With a "bulbous" style forearm, it most likely was either a Model 1936 or a Model 36 carbine. The Model 1936 had a case-colored receiver and the Model 36 usually has a blued receiver. Some very early Model 36's were case-colored, too.
The Model 1936 was made from 1936 to 1941 and the Model 36 was made from 1945 to 1948. If you know when your uncle purchased his saddle gun, then it might help to narrow down which model you should be looking for.
Good luck.........

Arizona is as much as I could guess to narrow down where.

Not so much as where, but when he bought it might help determine what model it is.
Also, a model marking should be found either on the upper tang, behind the hammer, or somewhere on the barrel it self.
