I recently bought a Marlin Model 5510 10 ga.and was wondering if it was safe to shoot steel shot this gun ?

Personally I wouldn't think twice about it, but to be positively sure, it would be best to call Marlin. They will know without a doubt. :)

Yeah I called an they said could shoot steel through but dont recondmend it now im in doubt of haven it .

What kind of non toxic can i shoot without hurting the barrel or not really worry about?

I used to own one of these behemoths about a twenty years ago when I hunted waterfowl nearly every day in the fall. I shot a pile of steel in mine. I wasn't worried about shooting steel simply because the barrel walls are so thick on these shotguns that I figured nothing short of a plugged barrel would bulge it. I must have fired nearly a thousand rounds of steel in mine with no ill effects. I finally got rid of it about a decade ago when I switched from a 10 ga. to a 3.5" 12 ga. The thing never missed a beat....
