marlin model 31 action problems

Post by bamashooter »

i recently purchased a model 31 16ga . after getting the gun home and playing with it i loaded four rounds into the magazine tube. when working the pump action the first shell loads fine. however as the first shell goes in the barrell and the action closes and locks the second shell in the magazine tube is ejected out the bottom. i'm not real familiar with this gun or type of action , so any wisdom would be much appreciated! thanks to all who help and thank you all for keeping guns a great part of all of our lives.

Bamashooter;

The hammerless Model 31 is not a simple action to work on. Experienced gunsmiths are your best bet. It sounds like the shell stop (should be located in the side of the receiver) is hanging up when the lifter raises the first shell allowing the second shell to exit the magazine tube. You might try to some spray cleaner/lubricant around the shell stop to clean any gunk that may be interfering with the shell stops function.
Good luck......
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!
