what model is it?

Post by b4any »

I have a Marlin hammer gun with pistol girp stock. Barrell stamps Marlin fire-arms Co., pat'd nov 6 1894 may 12 1896 & june 2 1896. It has no gauge marking. It is a take down. recv. s/n 27197 barrel no. 27586f. So I would like to know manuf. date and model. It has about 30 % blue, good wood . Does it have collector value?
Thanks for reply

Marty;

You have an "A" grade, Marlin Model 1898 exposed hammer, pump action shotgun, that was shipped in late 1901. Your gun has the original barrel as it left the factory that originally was 30 inches long, in 12 gauge.
Marlin shotguns are becoming popular to collect. They are affordable and there are lots of models and variations.
I hope this helps.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!
