Production date for 12 ga model 90

Stamped 3909 , has duck engraving.

I inherited this old Marlin from my grandfather and would like to know more about it

Marlin started production of the model 90 in 1937. Although there are no records remaining at Marlin or anywhere else, the flying duck scene suggests your gun was likely made in 1937. Some of the earliest model 90's also have the top lever attached to the frame with a visible flat head screw. Also, the 1st generation forearm iron extends only half the height of the frame with the forearm wood extending the remaining height of the frame.
