Marlin Hammer Pump Shot Gun

Post by Odis »

I obtained a Marlin Shot Gun from my Grandfather approximately 49 years ago. There is not a model number on it that I can find. It is identified on the barrel as "Marlin Fire-Arms Co. New Heaven Ct. USA Pat'D Nov 6, 1894, May 12, 1896 , June 6, 1896. There is a serial number 33589. I would like to obtain some information about the gun?

Odis;

You have a Marlin Model 1898, exposed hammer, pump action 12 gauge shotgun. It is what as known as the standard or "A" grade gun that had a 30 inch barrel and a barrel serial number of 35145. Most 30 inch barrels will be a full choke, which will be denoted by the letter "F" next to the barrel serial number. (usually located on the side or bottom of the barrel behind the slide action arm). This shotgun was shipped from the factory in New Haven, Ct. in early 1903.
I hope this helps.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!
