Model 1898 info

Post by kemster99 »

Was given a Model 1898. And I would like to find out some info on mine. Was handed down from a great- uncle. The serial numbers do not match, but after reading e few posts on here, I guess that was normal. It does have a little " push button" in the receiver next to the hammer. The reciever serial number is 592XX, the barrel number is 539XX.. Would just like to find out some info on it. Thanks.

Kemster99;

You are in luck. There are factory records for your Marlin Model 1898, exposed hammer pump action shotgun. According to the records, you shotgun should have been shipped from the factory in 1903/1904. The records list the serial number of the receiver and the serial number of the barrel that was with the gun when it left the factory. The records also tell the barrel length and usually the choke. (that would be the letter beside the barrel serial number F for full M for modified or C for open choke) If the grade was other than the standard A grade, then that will be listed as well.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!
