Has anyone seen this model before?

Post by dcff1 »

I believe this is an 1898. But I haven't seen one with these markings/inlets in the stock and pump? Any information that you can share with me would be appreciated. I bought this gun about 25 years ago for $25.00. The serial number on the receiver is 19918. the serial number on the barrel is 21091. Dcff1;

Your Marlin Model 1898 is an "A" grade gun that was shipped in April of 1901 with a 30 inch full choke barrel. You will be glad to know that the barrel is the original barrel according to the factory records.
The butt stock on your shotgun has been replaced and is not the original butt stock nor the correct shape for a Marlin shotgun. The inlays are not factory either. At some point in time, the butt stock was replaced and the inlays put in the stock and forearm pump handle.
I hope this helps.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!
