Need info on model 48 12 gauge

My uncle found a model 48 12gauge...its def. Clearly marked as a model 48...the las 23t patent date is feb 23rd, 1915. We cant find any info, anywhere.....please help!!!!

The reason you cannot find any information on a Marlin Model 48, 12 gauge pump action shotgun is because Marlin did not make a Model 48. Marlin made a Model 43, which is most likely what you have, and the "3" in 43 is stamped deeply, making it look like an "8". Your Model 43 will be a hammerless gun.
If your gun has a hammer, then it will be the Model 49, with the "9" stamped deeply, looking like an "8". But, since the last patent date is Feb. 23, 1915, it should be the Model 43 hammerless as the Model 49 had different patent dates.
