I am looking for information on a marlin shotgun. There is no model number listed. It is also hammerless. the serial number is 6136, under the barrel there is a number of L720L3, and an f . the patient dates are 5/12/1896--6/2/1896---3/29/1904---8/7/1905-- 3/24/1908---5/19/1908---11/23/1909-- 12/21/1909

trap gun?

I can't say with confidence, but it rather sounds like a trap gun. Has it a straight stock? I'm leaving for work, one of the really sharp members might have the answer for you. That the barrel & receiver are numbered differently is normal. The 'F' is for full choke, of course.SW

The only hammerless pump action shotgun that has the last patent date of December 12, 1909 is the Model 28. The Model 28 was made from 1913 to 1923, except for the WW I war years. This was Marlin's first hammerless pump action shotgun and originally sold for $22.60 for a standard or "A" grade shotgun. The Model 28 was made in 6 grades, the A grade, B, C and D along with the T (Trap) and TS (Trap Special) grade. Standard guns had either a 30 or 32 inch full choke barrel. (which as Steve mentioned, is what the "F" on the barrel stands for.)
I hope this helps.
