My dad gave me a Marlin Model 120 MXR Magnum in 12 gauge with a 40" barrel. He doesn't hunt, and I'm already set up. I don't need it, I don't really want it, but it seems like a rare barrel, so I wanted to see what you all thought about options:
(1) Sell it.
(2) Cut the barrel down to 18" for home defense.
If this is a rare barrel I would hate to cut it off. At the same time, if there's no market for it, the last 22 inches of barrel are going in the trash.
Any thoughts? Is there a market for this monstrosity?
Thanks!
David

David;
I would not cut it. Marlin made 6,984 of the 40 inch barrels, so eventually someone out there will want it for a collectors item. If anything, offer to trade it to someone that might be interested in such a deal. I have seen other barrels for the Model 120 for sale or at auction on the internet, so you might look there first before you do anything.
If you buy a new barrel, you could post your barrel here under the "FOR SALE" section of this site.

Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!
