Model 94 38-40 Information hunt

Post by Delta IX » Fri Jun 20, 2008 9:44 am

First post, very new to this forum.
I would like to know if there is a resource to find manufacture dates from serial numbers on Marlin rifles?
I have a Marlin model '94 in 38-40 caliber serial number 39692X. It has what seems to be a heavy barrel configuration, and a small globe style front sight, I believe someone may have added that and drilled an tapped the receiver for a receiver sight to match.
The gun sports several filed notches on the stock wrist which I believe are deer kills.
I would like to know the age of this piece.
Thanks for any help, this looks like a very well run forum. Kevin W. Dix

I believe the factory records end in the 355,000 range around 1906 yours should be in the 1907-08 range. When Reigner checks in he will be able to tell you for sure but I believe yours is after the available records.

Delta IX;

A Marlin with a serial number in the 396,000 range should have been made somewhere around 1908-1909. Possibity as late as 1910. It is out of the serial number records range, so this is only an estimate.
Due to the increasing cost of ammunition, there be no warning shot!
