Pacific wiping rod tip

Post by coopersdad »

A friend just acquired a nice #5 Pacific, but the wiping rod is just a hickory stick with no brass tip. I know they were threaded to receive a brush or jag, but were they concave like a muzzleloader ramrod tip?

No they were not concave, because they were not used as a ramrod, but merely a wiping rod. The end was flat and had a threaded hole for a jag or brush to screw into.
A .38 Spl. brass case makes a pretty decent cap if you chuck it in a drill press and file off the rim, and rollstamp on the base. Simply pull the primer and thread the primer pocket for 8-32.
