Jim,
I'm starting work on a Ballard Pacific and need some additional information on annealing the receiver, which needs to be polished, restamped, and color cased. I have access to a heat treating oven with standard controls but not programmable, but I think it should be sufficient for the anneal. I've got your recommended temperatures and procedure for the anneal, but would like some clarification. Blocking? Where do you block and material used for block (s)? Barrel and tang threads, do you try to protect from scaling and/or distortion? if so how? In the past, I've wrapped 4140 etc. in stainless wrap when annealing to reduce scaling. Is that unneeded with the wood charcoal surrounding the forged Ballard receiver? Any advise you'd like to add will be appreciated. Thanks,

Tom
