Marlin Help

Post by N8Gunner »

Hello,
I live in Washington state. I found this forum
while researching 2 old Marlins that I have recently aquired.
I can send Pictures if I can get your email address
My Email is N870@Hotmail.com

(I am trying to find out manufacture/ship dates on 2 rifles. Also any help with
$Value$ will be much appreciated)

(I am trying to trade both for a rather nice original US 1863 Rifle Musket
(Contract, Not Springfield or Colt)

1st is a Marlin Ballard No 2 Sporting with reversable Breach and Double set
trigger and ringed shaped lever. Bore is clean, albeit pitted with about 75% rifleing Ser. # 247xx This gun has the heavy 28-inch octagon barrel that is
marked near the receiver: " 32 LONG ". Exterior condition is NRA Antique VG-
Fine

The receiver is marked on the left side, with two lines reading:

"MARLIN FIREARMS CO. NEW HAVEN, CT. USA / PATENTED FEBRUARY 9 1875"

"BALLARDS PATENTED NOV.6 1861

The barrel has a total smooth brown patina.

The receiver is smooth dark gray/brown with some gray flecking which appears to
be the case coloring having had color distortion due to age.

The top of the receiver is factory drilled and tapped for a tang sight, and the
barrel is machined to accept both rear and foresight options. There were several
sight options available for these Ballards.

No sights are with this gun.

The wood is in typical aged condition with no cracks apparent in either piece.
There are dents and dings in the butt stock and a chip in the forestock with
nicks and gouges.

The gun is in excellent mechanical working order and has a very nice set of
double set triggers that are in excellent working order along with the ejector
and lever action.

The other rifle is a Marlin Model 93 Carbine in 30-30 20" Bbl and an excellent
bore.Serial # C50x
The 93 has little-none case color on the reciever (small patch under the lever)
The 20" bbl has 70-75% blueing remaining.Tang is marked Marlin Model 93
Barrel is marked "The Marlin Firearms Corporation"
New Haven Conn. USA Patented
Barrel is marked 30-30 near the reciever.

Thank you for any and all help with this
